Course Description
Craigmillar Park Golf Club was constituted in 1895 and moved to its present location in 1907. It was extended to 18 holes (designed by James Braid) in 1927. If you would like to play a golf course that is close to the centre of Edinburgh yet within the Green belt; with fantastic views down the coast of East Lothian and across the Firth to Fife; where you won't hear the intrusive sounds of traffic and are likely to spot deer, then look no further than Craigmillar Park Golf Club. A long-established Edinburgh Golf Club, inaugurated in 1895, it moved to its present location in 1927, where the original 9 holes were designed by James Braid. Craigmillar Park is host to the first Scottish Amateur 72 hole event of the season. Scotland's leading amateurs and many players from south of the border descend on the course in April each year to take part in this event previously won by 6 times major winner Sir Nick Faldo.

How difficult is Craigmillar Park for mid-handicap golfers?
Craigmillar Park is regarded as a strategically complex layout. This slope level makes it manageable compared to championship venues. The course rating of 67.5 reflects on scoring relative to par 72.
What tees should a 15 handicap play at Craigmillar Park?
A 15 handicap golfer should consider tees closer to 5570 yards. The back tees extend to 5828.0 yards, which makes approach shots longer and scoring more challenging.
What is considered a good score at Craigmillar Park?
With a course rating of 67.5 and par 72, a mid-handicap golfer would typically score in the mid to high 80s. Stronger players aiming to break 72 must manage approach shots and avoid penalty strokes.
How long is Craigmillar Park and how does yardage affect play?
Stretching to 5828.0 yards from the back tees, distance is less of a barrier than precision.
What type of course is Craigmillar Park and how should I play it?
The course follows a traditional Parkland design philosophy. Overall, the setup will reward players who place the ball in safe positions far from hazards. Also, type of shot is more crucial rather than just trying to gain distance.
What features make Craigmillar Park strategically challenging?
The combination of a slope rating of 114.0 and yardage reaching 5828.0 yards creates consistent pressure on approach shots. You will need to balance risk and reward, especially on longer par 4s and protected greens.
