Course Description
Established in 1913, Blackmoor is a stunning heathland Par 69 course in Hampshire, designed by the great Harry Colt. The course consists of two loops of nine holes with fairways surrounded by heather, pine, birch and oak trees. Noted for the quality of its greens throughout the year, the course features many subtle dog-legs while the par 3's all have the stamp of Harry Colt - namely, elevated greens well-guarded by bunkers. From 1998 until 2003, Blackmoor was a regional qualifying course for the Open Championship where golfers from the UK, Europe, America and Africa began their quest for 'The Claret Jug'.

How difficult is Blackmoor for mid-handicap golfers?
Players often find Blackmoor technically exacting. The 120.0 slope rating keeps it accessible for developing players. The course rating of 70.2 reflects on scoring relative to par 71.
What tees should a 15 handicap play at Blackmoor?
A 15 handicap golfer should consider tees closer to 5772 yards. The back tees extend to 6150.0 yards, which makes approach shots longer and scoring more challenging.
What is considered a good score at Blackmoor?
With a course rating of 70.2 and par 71, a mid-handicap golfer would typically score in the mid to high 80s. Stronger players aiming to break 71 must manage approach shots and avoid penalty strokes.
How long is Blackmoor and how does yardage affect play?
At a full length of 6150.0 yards, it emphasizes accuracy and wedge play.
What type of course is Blackmoor and how should I play it?
Architecturally, it reflects a Links style. Overall, the setup will reward players who place the ball in safe positions far from hazards. Also, type of shot is more crucial rather than just trying to gain distance.
What features make Blackmoor strategically challenging?
The combination of a slope rating of 120.0 and yardage reaching 6150.0 yards creates consistent pressure on approach shots. You will need to balance risk and reward, especially on longer par 4s and protected greens.
