Course Description
The South Sea Company was a British joint-stock company founded in 1711 and dissolved in 1855. It was established to manage national debt resulting from the War of the Spanish Succession. The company acquired a monopoly on trade with Spanish South America through the Treaty of Utrecht in 1713, although its actual trade activities were limited compared to its financial operations. The company focused on debt management by swapping government debt for shares, which helped reduce interest payments. It also held exclusive rights to supply enslaved Africans to Spanish colonies and engage in limited trade. The South Sea Company became notable for its role in the 1720 financial bubble, driven by exaggerated profit claims, which ultimately led to a stock crash and significant parliamentary reforms.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions about Captiva
Get answers to common questions about playing Captiva and what to expect.
How difficult is Captiva for mid-handicap golfers?
Captiva is regarded as a strategically complex layout. This slope level makes it manageable compared to championship venues. The course rating of 70 reflects on scoring relative to par 27.
What tees should a 15 handicap play at Captiva?
A 15 handicap golfer should consider tees closer to 6000 yards. The back tees extend to 6500 yards, which makes approach shots longer and scoring more challenging.
What is considered a good score at Captiva?
With a course rating of 70 and par 27, a mid-handicap golfer would typically score in the mid to high 80s. Stronger players aiming to break 27 must manage approach shots and avoid penalty strokes.
How long is Captiva and how does yardage affect play?
Stretching to 6500 yards from the back tees, it does not overwhelm length but rewards accuracy.
What type of course is Captiva and how should I play it?
The course follows a traditional Parkland design philosophy. Overall, the setup will reward players who place the ball in safe positions far from hazards. Also, type of shot is more crucial rather than just trying to gain distance.
What features make Captiva strategically challenging?
The combination of a slope rating of 120 and yardage reaching 6500 yards creates consistent pressure on approach shots. You will need to balance risk and reward, especially on longer par 4s and protected greens.
