Course Description

Oakley Country Club was founded in 1898 upon two principles: First, to provide an opportunity for outdoor sports and second, to provide a congenial meeting place for friends. Although many changes have occurred during the past century, the principal purposes remain the foundation of Oakley's reputation and success. Shortly after the club was founded, a young golfer arrived from Scotland to redesign Oakley's golf course and to compete professionally in America. Donald Ross would grow from his initial employment at Oakley to become one of the legendary golf course architects of the twentieth century. While any 'Donald Ross' course is distinctive and distinguished, the uniqueness of Oakley Country Club's Golf Course is that it represents the very first Ross commission in America. Excitement for our second century abounds. Our clubhouse and social activities, our pool and tennis events and our classic golfing venue await a new era of Oakley competition and camaraderie. Every generation of Oakley members has passed along a deep affection for our traditions and our spirit of neighborly fellowship. We sincerely hope that you will join in the Oakley spirit, enjoy our enviable facilities and help us make Oakley an even better environment for sport and socializing in the years to come.

Frequently Asked Questions about Oakley Country Club

Get answers to common questions about playing Oakley Country Club and what to expect.

How difficult is Oakley Country Club for mid-handicap golfers?

Oakley Country Club presents a demanding test. This slope level makes it manageable compared to championship venues. The course rating of 74.7 reflects on scoring relative to par 71.

What tees should a 15 handicap play at Oakley Country Club?

A 15 handicap golfer should consider tees closer to 5692 yards. The back tees extend to 6009.0 yards, which makes approach shots longer and scoring more challenging.

What is considered a good score at Oakley Country Club?

With a course rating of 74.7 and par 71, a mid-handicap golfer would typically score in the mid to high 80s. Stronger players aiming to break 71 must manage approach shots and avoid penalty strokes.

How long is Oakley Country Club and how does yardage affect play?

Stretching to 6009.0 yards from the back tees, distance is less of a barrier than precision.

What type of course is Oakley Country Club and how should I play it?

The course follows a traditional Parkland design philosophy. Overall, the setup will reward players who place the ball in safe positions far from hazards. Also, type of shot is more crucial rather than just trying to gain distance.

What features make Oakley Country Club strategically challenging?

The combination of a slope rating of 129.0 and yardage reaching 6009.0 yards creates consistent pressure on approach shots. You will need to balance risk and reward, especially on longer par 4s and protected greens.
