Course Description
"Many marriages are made in Millport. But many more might be made in that delightful paradise of the West. The prosperity of Cumbrae would be increased, and the happiness of the whole community placed upon a more commanding basis. Schools and churches would flourish, education would fly upon the wings of the wind, and the fame of the virtuous little jewel of an isle would reach the ends of the earth." The author of the article in the Glasgow Herald of October 22nd 1887 declared that these predictions would be realised "if a golfing links were to be established on the island". Over 135 years later on, I can confirm at least one of these predictions came true, as my parents meet at a dance in Millport Golf Club, I was married on the island, and I held my wedding reception in the golf club. Millport Golf Club prides itself on being a friendly, family orientated golf club and welcomes visitors. We have a full calendar of golfing events throughout the year, with options suitable for all golfing abilities. With handicap opens, doubles competitions, mixed events and the prestigious Cumbrae Cup scratch event for the very of best players. Add in our lively social events, including the world famous Quizoki, there is something for everyone. Almost never closed and very rarely on winter greens or mats, Millport Golf Club offers golf all year round. With unsurpassed views of the Firth of Clyde, Bute, Arran and beyond, even on the worst days of weather or golf, the stunning views will lift the heart and all the woes seem slightly less heavy. You may even meet your future sweetheart on our links and continue to add to the many marriages made in Millport. I look forward to welcoming you to our Club, and hope that you enjoy your game, the views and the hospitality in the clubhouse.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions about Millport
Get answers to common questions about playing Millport and what to expect.
How difficult is Millport for mid-handicap golfers?
Millport is regarded as a strategically complex layout. This slope level makes it manageable compared to championship venues. The course rating of 70 reflects on scoring relative to par 68.
What tees should a 15 handicap play at Millport?
A 15 handicap golfer should consider tees closer to 6000 yards. The back tees extend to 6500 yards, which makes approach shots longer and scoring more challenging.
What is considered a good score at Millport?
With a course rating of 70 and par 68, a mid-handicap golfer would typically score in the mid to high 80s. Stronger players aiming to break 68 must manage approach shots and avoid penalty strokes.
How long is Millport and how does yardage affect play?
Stretching to 6500 yards from the back tees, it does not overwhelm length but rewards accuracy.
What type of course is Millport and how should I play it?
The course follows a traditional Links design philosophy. Overall, the setup will reward players who place the ball in safe positions far from hazards. Also, type of shot is more crucial rather than just trying to gain distance.
What features make Millport strategically challenging?
The combination of a slope rating of 120 and yardage reaching 6500 yards creates consistent pressure on approach shots. You will need to balance risk and reward, especially on longer par 4s and protected greens.
