Course Description
Maungakiekie has the grace that only a mature golf course can offer — well-contoured fairways and greens and an abundance of native trees attracting a wide variety of colourful birdlife. No wonder the Clubhouse overlooks some of the most stunning views in Auckland across the course to the Waitakere Ranges and the Manukau Harbour Headland, all within 15 minutes drive from both Auckland International Airport and Auckland CBD. Established at the turn of last century in 1909, the Club has kept pace with modern course design and agronomy techniques. Recent course redevelopments devised by renown American course architect Dave Harmon (Kauri Cliffs) have given Maungakiekie a number of new fairways, greens and challenges to test and delight both the casual golfer and low-handicaper. In addition to the course itself, the Club boasts multiple practice areas: putting green, indoor driving nets and Albatross golf simulator, indoor putting and chipping green, chipping green, practice bunkers, and short game range. Maungakiekie operates a fully stocked Golf Shop, 7-day Cafe, and full bar facilities. The Club hosts and welcomes Corporate and Charity Golf Days, with the catering and function facilities being ideal for dinners, meetings, conferences, weddings and private functions. We look forward to welcoming you to our wonderful golfing and social facility!

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions about A Layout
Get answers to common questions about playing A Layout and what to expect.
How difficult is A Layout for mid-handicap golfers?
Players often find A Layout technically exacting. The 120 slope rating keeps it accessible for developing players. The course rating of 70 reflects on scoring relative to par 70.
What tees should a 15 handicap play at A Layout?
A 15 handicap golfer should consider tees closer to 6000 yards. The back tees extend to 6500 yards, which makes approach shots longer and scoring more challenging.
What is considered a good score at A Layout?
With a course rating of 70 and par 70, a mid-handicap golfer would typically score in the mid to high 80s. Stronger players aiming to break 70 must manage approach shots and avoid penalty strokes.
How long is A Layout and how does yardage affect play?
At a full length of 6500 yards, it balances distance with positional strategy.
What type of course is A Layout and how should I play it?
Architecturally, it reflects a Parkland style. Overall, the setup will reward players who place the ball in safe positions far from hazards. Also, type of shot is more crucial rather than just trying to gain distance.
What features make A Layout strategically challenging?
The combination of a slope rating of 120 and yardage reaching 6500 yards creates consistent pressure on approach shots. You will need to balance risk and reward, especially on longer par 4s and protected greens.
