Course Description
The Legacy is a 6,500-yard championship 18-hole golf facility with a course rating of 71.3 - slope 134. The Legacy project, which includes over 100 uniquely different golf community home sites, was started in the early 1990's. The golf course designed in 1996 by nationally accredited golf architect Garret Gill opened for play in 1998. The Legacy is a Public course which offers tournaments, corporate outings and leagues along with all of the standard amenities of a championship golf facility. The golf course as described in the 1998 Minnesota Golf magazine has three kinds of holes. The center of the course is slightly hilly, with classic, tree-lined fairways. To the north, rolling topography is punctuated with prairie grasses, creating Scottish-style links. And in the south, there are beautiful vistas with the Internationally known college prep school Shattuck-St. Mary's in the background. "The low green fees are eye catching, considering the quality of golf." Golf Digest, July 2001. Directions: We are located 30 - 35 minutes from the Minneapolis/St. Paul, Rochester, and Mankato areas. FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions about Legacy Golf
Get answers to common questions about playing Legacy Golf and what to expect.
How difficult is Legacy Golf for mid-handicap golfers?
Legacy Golf is regarded as a strategically complex layout. A slope rating of 134.0 suggests a moderately demanding round. The course rating of 74.7 reflects on scoring relative to par 72.
What tees should a 15 handicap play at Legacy Golf?
A 15 handicap golfer should consider tees closer to 5516 yards. The back tees extend to 6002.0 yards, which makes approach shots longer and scoring more challenging.
What is considered a good score at Legacy Golf?
With a course rating of 74.7 and par 72, a mid-handicap golfer would typically score in the mid to high 80s. Stronger players aiming to break 72 must manage approach shots and avoid penalty strokes.
How long is Legacy Golf and how does yardage affect play?
Measuring 6002.0 yards at maximum length, strategy outweighs power in most scoring situations.
What type of course is Legacy Golf and how should I play it?
Legacy Golf is designed as a Parkland layout. Overall, the setup will reward players who place the ball in safe positions far from hazards. Also, type of shot is more crucial rather than just trying to gain distance.
What features make Legacy Golf strategically challenging?
The combination of a slope rating of 134.0 and yardage reaching 6002.0 yards creates consistent pressure on approach shots. You will need to balance risk and reward, especially on longer par 4s and protected greens.
