Course Description
Deerwood Country Club, established in 1960, is a private, member-owned club in Jacksonville, Florida. Known for its golf course designed by George Cobb, it is Jacksonville's first gated community and country club playing a significant role in the development of the city's Southside. The club has a rich history that includes hosting the Greater Jacksonville Open (now THE PLAYERS Championship) several times. Golf Course: The club's golf course was designed by George Cobb and opened in 1960, becoming a focal point of the community. The course has been updated and renovated, most recently in 2004, with Brian Silva leading the redesign. Hosting Professional Golf: The Deerwood golf course hosted the Greater Jacksonville Open several times between 1967 and 1975, which later became THE PLAYERS Championship. Community Growth: Deerwood was the first gated community in Jacksonville, and its development contributed to the growth of the Southside area. Land was donated to create Southside Boulevard and the University of North Florida campus. Member-Owned: The club is a member-owned and member-elected organization. Amenities: In addition to golf, Deerwood offers tennis courts, a fitness center, an aquatic center, and a clubhouse with dining and social events.
