Course Description

The Premium Members Parkland Course in IrelandCork Golf Club is located at Little Island close to Cork City. This championship golf course is routed through exceptional golfing terrain incorporating old limestone quarries and the inner reaches of Cork Harbour.Cork GC was formed in 1888 by prominent Cork businessmen. The first location was at Rathcooney Hill above Glanmire village. Thereafter a number of moves were made while searching for a better site. The present location at Little Island was chosen in 1897 when Messrs Maudslay, J. H. Gubbins and Sharman Crawford spotted its potential while sailing in the adjacent estuary.

Frequently Asked Questions about Cork Golf Club

Get answers to common questions about playing Cork Golf Club and what to expect.

How difficult is Cork Golf Club for mid-handicap golfers?

Cork Golf Club presents a demanding test. The 133.0 slope indicates balanced but noticeable difficulty. The course rating of 71.8 reflects on scoring relative to par 72.

What tees should a 15 handicap play at Cork Golf Club?

A 15 handicap golfer should consider tees closer to 6092 yards. The back tees extend to 6514.0 yards, which makes approach shots longer and scoring more challenging.

What is considered a good score at Cork Golf Club?

With a course rating of 71.8 and par 72, a mid-handicap golfer would typically score in the mid to high 80s. Stronger players aiming to break 72 must manage approach shots and avoid penalty strokes.

How long is Cork Golf Club and how does yardage affect play?

Stretching to 6514.0 yards from the back tees, it does not overwhelm length but rewards accuracy.

What type of course is Cork Golf Club and how should I play it?

The course follows a traditional Parkland design philosophy. Overall, the setup will reward players who place the ball in safe positions far from hazards. Also, type of shot is more crucial rather than just trying to gain distance.

What features make Cork Golf Club strategically challenging?

The combination of a slope rating of 133.0 and yardage reaching 6514.0 yards creates consistent pressure on approach shots. You will need to balance risk and reward, especially on longer par 4s and protected greens.
