Course Description

El Club Estudiantes de La Plata es un club deportivo de Argentina, ubicado en la ciudad de La Plata, provincia de Buenos Aires. Fundado el 4 de agosto de 1905 y su principal actividad es el fútbol. Cuenta con 40.000 socios.Su mayor logro lo obtuvo en 1968, consagrándose Campeón del Mundo al derrotar al Manchester United de Inglaterra en la final de la Copa Intercontinental. Es uno de los únicos seis equipos argentinos que han ganado el máximo campeonato de clubes de fútbol a nivel mundial. Disputó las finales de esa copa en 1969, 1970 y 2009, esta última bajo el nuevo formato de Mundial de Clubes de la FIFA.Comenzó su actividad futbolística en 1906, al incorporarse a los torneos de AFA. Unico club de la ciudad de La Plata en haber obtenido títulos oficiales nacionales e internacionales, de carácter regular, en la era profesional. Ha ganado cuatro campeonatos de Primera División del fútbol argentino y, a nivel internacional, también en cuatro ocasiones la Copa Libertadores de América, por lo que es el tercer conjunto argentino que más veces la ha obtenido. Además de ser la institución que rompió la hegemonía de títulos nacionales de los denominados cinco grandes en 1967, ganó la Copa Interamericana 1969; 2 copas nacionales no regulares, la Copa Escobar 1944 y la Copa de la República 1945; un torneo nacional durante la era amateur, en 1913; y la Copa Río de La Plata 1914.También fue finalista de la Copa Sudamericana 2008.Estudiantes se encuentra entre los cinco equipos del fútbol argentino con más presencias en Primera División (79 temporadas) y en abril y mayo de 2010 se ubicó en el 2.do puesto en la clasificación mundial de clubes de la IFFHS. Con la obtención de la Copa Libertadores 2009, se convirtió en el cuarto equipo más laureado del fútbol sudamericano en esta competición y disputó por primera vez en su historia la Copa Mundial de Clubes, en los Emiratos Árabes Unidos, siendo finalista. Es el segundo equipo argentino en alcanzar esta instancia internacional.
