Course Description
El Club de Golf de Cuernavaca, el primero en el estado de Morelos, abrió sus puertas el 23 de Marzo 1934. El General Plutarco Elías Calles en su calidad de Presidente del Consejo de Administración del nuevo centro deportivo, accedió a apadrinar la ceremonia e izar la bandera nacional, que es la que corresponde al Club de Golf por ser exclusivamente mexicano. El lábaro patrio fue elevado a las 12:00 horas en el asta bandera del singular edificio. Con éste ritual el club quedó oficialmente inaugurado.Para celebrar el acontecimiento, se organizó el "Torneo de Semana Mayor", llamado así por haber coincidido con la fiesta religiosa, y a la fecha una tradición dentro del calendario de actividades anuales del golf nacional e internacional. Plutarco Elías Calles contó con el respaldo de Abelardo Rodríguez, Presidente de la República, así como de Vicente Estrada Cajigal, Gobernador del estado de Morelos. Al momento de la inauguración ambos mandatarios estaban en funciones y eran socios del centro deportivo.El Club se erigió sobre un bello lomerío que limitan los barrancos de San Francisco, el Pollo y San Antón. El magnífico campo comprende una extensión de 17 hectáreas en las que se incluye la Casa Club. El trazo del campo lo realizaron Juan N. Icaza e Ignacio de la Borbolla; el campo se despliega sobre una intrincada pendiente que desbrozaron pelotones de enérgicos soldados de la Secretaría de Guerra y Marina, bajo las órdenes de los ingenieros Gustavo Durón González y Ángel García Lascurain, responsables de las obras.A lo largo del Siglo XX, el club de Golf de Cuernavaca tuvo diversos dueños: en primer lugar el señor Ramón Llano, le siguió el señor Virgilio Galindo, y a éste la empresa Ingenieros Civiles Asociados (ICA).En 1984, Grupo Carso que preside el Ing. Carlos Slim Helú, adquirió el Club, y hoy se caracteriza por permitir el acceso a cualquier jugador, aficionado o profesional, sea o no socio como una forma de promover la práctica deportiva; se continúa con la tradición de realizar el Torneo de Semana Mayor, mismo que de 1990 a 1999 se le llama Copa Challenge Inbursa. Posteriormente, de 2000 a 2005 se convierte en Copa Inbursa y a partir de 2006 en Copa Telmex.El Club hoy, es visto por quienes acuden a él como un espacio que les permite conjugar sus pasiones, el gusto por el golf y la presencia de los suyos; un espacio físico rodeado de árboles de especies únicas que son cuidados con esmero y dedicación por sus jardineros, al igual que el resto de la flora y la fauna, buscando con ello conservar el equilibrio ecológico de la zona.
